Storyline
Plot Summary |
The DA's office has a major grand jury investigation underway on corruption and theft in the construction industry. The night before Det. Sgt. Max Greevy is to testify, he is gunned down at home in his driveway. Needless to say, Logan is upset and partnered with Det. Phil Cerreta, looks for what they and the DA's office believe must have been a leak from a member of the grand jury. When it turns out the jury foreman may have told his son of Greevy's upcoming testimony, Logan tracks him down and gets him to confess at gunpoint. There seems to be little doubt that the man is the one who killed Greevy but Logan's zealousness in getting the confession may result in the case being thrown out of court. Written by garykmcd |

Trivia | In most states the charge of murder in the first degree is charged for premeditated murder, murdering a person by lying in wait and murders committed during serious felonies, but in New York state it works a little differently. In New York premeditation & lying in wait are not aggravating factors and are charged as murder in the second degree. Murder in the first degree is reserved for: intentionally causing the death of a police or peace officer while performing their duties; intentionally causing the death of a firefighter, paramedic, EMT, physician or nurse responding to an emergency; intentionally causing the death of a judge or a person holding public office; intentionally causing the death of a witness to a crime in order to prevent them from giving a statement to the police or testifying before a judge or jury; murder for hire; murder for profit; causing the death of a person during the commission of a serious felony, such as kidnapping in the first degree, arson in the first degree, and rape in the first degree; intentionally causing the death of another person after being previously convicted of murder. Someone who is an active participant in a violent felony like arson, kidnapping, rape or robbery where someone is killed, even if they were not the one that caused the person's death, is charged with felony murder, which carries the same potential penalties as first degree murder. Quotes |
Det. Mike Logan:
What the hell is this? You expect me to sit on my ass while my partner's killer walks around free? Executive A.D.A. Ben Stone: Either way, that is exactly what is going to happen. Because if the first confession is coerced, then so is the second, and the third, no matter how many times you Mirandize the suspect. Capt. Donald Cragen: Coercion is a judgment call, Stone. My guy never laid a glove on the son of a bitch. Executive A.D.A. Ben Stone: That doesn't matter. If he coerced the first confession, it is still "fruit of the poisonous tree." Det. Mike Logan: What "fruit!" What's it some stupid technicality? Executive A.D.A. Ben Stone: [to Cragen] Perhaps you can explain the concept to your men, so they don't let another cop killer walk. [starts to leave, then pauses and turns back] Executive A.D.A. Ben Stone: I doubt if Max Greevey would've considered it a "technicality." See more » |
