JR Ewing comes to Knots Landing. Ewing Oil is drilling off-shore there as Petrolux Oil. Karen is organizing the community to fight Petrolux. Laura meets old flame, Chip a Petrolux front-man. Richard is a dissatisfied Lawyer and wants Laura to help him get the Petrolux account. JR is trying to dissuade Gary and Val from helping with the protest by threatening to tell Lucy about them being married and living in Knots Landing. Gary steals files from Petrolux to help the protest. He discovers that Petrolux has an alternate drilling site and is ready to tell the world. JR concedes and informs the Knots Landing community that he will drill elsewhere.
