Sergeant Beck and others at the police station are ecstatic that notorious criminal Ernie Gates down for 12 years.
Geoff Todd who grassed on Gates asks Inspector Jean Darblay for protection. Todd is also having an affair with someone close to Gates.
Meanwhile Tom Darblay is having to place Ernie Gates teenage daughter Barbara in care, initially with a colleague who works in social services. Events take a turn when his colleague is suspended after some allegations.
I do find that Tom Darblay seems to get too emotional for a social worker, he tends to be like a bull in a china shop when it comes to questioning the decision of his more experienced line managers. It is Jean who sets him straight.
A mildly diverting episode, there are several story strands which never amounts to much. More could had been made of just the allegations made by Barbara with some stronger writing.
