It's funny, my memory had this one down as a classic, and Sear of the Sands as rather ordinary, having re-watched both, I'd say it's perhaps the reverse, I loved Sear of the Sands, whereas I rather enjoyed Gorgon's Wood. It has a lot going for it, it's one of, if not the darkest episode of Jonathan Creek, there are elements of this show that you could place in many a dark thriller, the incident with the rake is rather grim. I love dark thrillers, but somehow those elements just don't hang so well on the show, it was never about that, were they trying to shock viewers rather then baffle them? I did enjoy it, I loved both Celia imrie and Michael Cochrane, two fine actors that clearly enjoyed their work on the show. It's clever, all the business about the statue's disappearance was well thought out.
Enjoyable, just not as good as I remembered. 7/10
