Philip McGough, John Thaw, and Kevin Whately in Inspector Morse (1987)

Goofs

The Secret of Bay 5B

Inspector Morse

Edit

Continuity

Brian Pierce takes a cord from a painting. When next seen he has hanged himself, but the cord shown hanging from the ceiling and around his neck is much longer than the cord from the painting. There are no knots in it where more than one cord has been joined together.
At 1 hour 20 minutes, having left the keys to his Jaguar S Type in George Henderson's woodland shed/office, the hooded figure of Edward Manley jogs past Morse and Lewis. During the following 1 minute and 20 seconds he has located a telephone (there is no evidence to suggest he or the person he phones uses a mobile phone) and contacted his accomplice who arrives by car at the shed to attempt to retrieve them.

Revealing mistakes

Also with the hanging suicide of Pierce, the cord was coming out of an ornamental ceiling rose where a light cable would usually be. There is no obvious way he could have attached it, and in view of the height of the ceiling and him being quite short, no way he could have got up there without a ladder. None is seen. The cord is also quite thin. It could have been used for a strangling, but for a hanging suicide it would almost certainly have broken under his weight.
Morse is dancing with Grayling, and the band leader has announced it to be a Quickstep. Grayling asks him where he learnt Quickstep, but that's not what he is doing . Even though they can only be seen from the waist up, it is clear that he is just shuffling around.
About 2 minutes 40 seconds, the primer (percussion cap) on the back of one rifle cartridge is missing. The others aren't visible. Probably a whole box of dummy cartridges.

Miscellaneous

Commencing at 6 minutes 27 seconds Morse makes two studied attempts to look into his rear view mirror which has been removed for reason or reasons unknown. This mirror is missing on numerous subsequent scenes in this episode but present in others.
