The lighthouse keeper quotes from three separate poems by William Wordsworth: "The world is too much with us", "She dwelt among untrodden ways" and "Venice, the maiden city". He is also seen reading from a Wordsworth collection.
Some sources give credit to Edgar Allan Poe as the writer of this episode. In fact, Robert Bloch completed a story which Poe began during the last month of his life, consisting of only a couple of pages of a light-keeper's diary entries.
