When Lewis and Russert are sitting in the car by the drug house, it is snowing very heavily. As they get out of the car to walk to the house, the snow stops instantly.
Detective Lewis says he is confiscating a man's shotgun because he didn't have a permit for it. However neither the state of Maryland or the city of Baltimore require a permit to purchase/own a rifle or shotgun. The only kind of gun in Baltimore that requires a permit is a handgun, owning a handgun requires a Maryland handgun qualification license, and the gun must be registered with the Maryland State Police within 90 days of purchase or moving to the state. A person must also have a concealed carry permit to carry a handgun outside their home or place of business as Maryland does not permit open carry.
Detective Bayliss is eager to play cards, and, in particular Hearts. He invites various individual coworkers to play one-on-one.
Hearts, generally is a game for three to six people. Although there is a two-person version, it involves removing various cards from the deck, specifically, removing the 3s, 5s, 7s, 9s, Jacks, and Kings. On the occasion when Bayliss invited Detective Howard to play he flashes the deck revealing a 5 and a Jack - thus, the deck is not suited (a pun!) for a two-person game.
Ultimately Bayliss plays a two-person game with Lt. Giardello, without any apparent alteration of the deck, and later when Detectives Felton and Howard join the game there's no apparent restoration of any removed cards to accommodate four players.
