- The heroes try to prevent the Gestapo from sending Klink and Schultz to the Russian front.
- Major Strauss of the Gestapo, under orders from his superior General Mueller, plans to take over Stalag 13. Of course, this could mean the end of not only Hogan's operation, but the underground's as well. Hogan then comes up with a plan to get rid of the Gestapo by framing Strauss saying that he is involved in a plot to overthrow Hitler. Will Hogan succeed or will this be the end of his underground operation?—Brian Washington <Sargebri@att.net>
- At the start, 7 Gestapo guards are seen marching in at the gate, and a group of 7 Luftwaffe men led by a sergeant with two corporals are marching off, apparently having given the guard duties to the Gestapo. A Gestapo major, Major Strauss, in civilian clothes and a necktie, is in Klink's office looking over the accounting books. Klink asks him what he wants; Strauss says that it is not what he wants, it is what he has. After talking to Klink, he asks for the senior POW officer to be called in. Klink has Schultz bring Hogan in. Strauss tells Hogan, Klink, and Schultz that the Gestapo will take over STALAG 13 by the authority of Gestapo General Mueller. Klink and Schultz will stay for a while, then be transferred. Klink objects and calls General Burkhalter, and tells him what is going on. As soon as Klink says 'Gestapo', Burkhalter hangs up on him. Klink says that he talked with him for 2 minutes before he said 'wrong number'.
Next, Hogan, Carter, LeBeau, and Baker are in the yard, with Carter sunning his face with tin pots. Hogan is upset at the Gestapo takeover. Hogan asks what will happen if Klink and Schultz go. Carter seems to think that they can train the Gestapo, but Hogan does not think so. Hogan calls a halt to all radio usage, sabotage, and tunnel digging activities. Just then, the Gestapo, using a metal detector, find a tunnel, and poke a hole through the top with a metal rod. Strauss asks Hogan to explain it; Hogan asks the men about it, and when nobody speaks up, says that it has to be left over from World War I. Strauss does not like the explanation, so he puts Hogan in the cooler for a week.
Later, Hogan is in the cooler, eating a semi-formal dinner and talking to LeBeau, who prepared it for him. Hogan has a plan to get rid of the Gestapo. Hogan asks to get a recording of Mueller's voice and have Newkirk practice impersonating it. Just then, Schultz and a Gestapo guard come; LeBeau and the dinner quickly disappear through a tunnel entrance. Schultz briefly talks to Hogan and gives him a tin can with spaghetti; he says that this is what the Gestapo serves prisoners for dinner. Schultz says that Klink is in his quarters, sulking. Hogan tells Schultz that he has some ideas on how to get rid of the Gestapo; Schultz asks Hogan if he can get try to get Klink to get Hogan released. Hogan does not think so, but plants the idea in Schultz's mind to ask Klink. As Schultz leaves, he says 'bon appetite'; Hogan asks him not to bring dessert.
The next day, Hogan is let out of the cooler; Hogan and Strauss exchange nasty looks on the way out. As that is happening, Baker and LeBeau are running a fake listening device microphone in a lamp in the barracks. Newkirk, Carter, and Hogan are in the tunnel listening to a recording of General Mueller and Major Strauss; Newkirk practices imitating Mueller. Hogan says that it is good, but Newkirk keeps practicing; his British accent can still be heard through the impersonation.
Later, Schultz comes to the barracks to make sure 'the coast is clear', that there is no Gestapo. When Hogan assures him that there are no Gestapo, Schultz gives a bird whistle out the door, and Klink comes in with a sunglasses disguise. Hogan thanks Klink for getting him out of the cooler. They have small talk for a few seconds. Klink says that he is willing to cooperate, but when the Gestapo leaves, he will return to is regular iron discipline. After talking a bit, Hogan 'finds' the phony microphone in the lamp. Baker and Carter ask Klink small-talk questions, a phony conversation, and Hogan cuts the microphone cord. Hogan tells Klink the Gestapo have bugged the place. Hogan gets Klink to arrange a trip for Hogan to go to the dentist tomorrow in town. After Klink and Schultz leave, Hogan tells Baker to contact the underground to meet him at the Hoffbrau tomorrow. Hogan asks for a distraction for Klink and Schultz; Baker and LeBeau say 'girls'; Carter says he would never have thought of that.
The next day, Hogan, Klink, and Schultz are sitting at a round table at the Hofbrau with 2 women (who are not named in the scene), drinking beer. One of the women kisses Schultz. Hogan signals the bartender, and asks for wine for the table. Then he excuses himself, and goes to the back room as the others continue to drink. Hogan meets an Underground agent in the back. He says that he needs two men, a civilian from Switzerland and General Mueller's aide, 'Captain Geissler'. He then tells of the plan that he has.
Later, Herr Otto Baum (actually one of the Underground agents) goes to Klink's office, where Strauss is sitting; Klink is not there at the time. Baum tells Strauss that he is there to discuss business with Mueller; when Strauss asks what the business is, Baum says that he can't say, he can only discuss it with Mueller. Strauss then calls Mueller on the phone. Baker intercepts the call, and passes it to Newkirk, who talks to Strauss sounding like Mueller. He says that he will not be able to be there, and that Baum has an agreement that Strauss is to sign 'accepted for General Mueller'. Strauss hangs up, and tells Baum that Mueller gives his regrets that he will not be here, and says that his aide Captain Geissler will be here. Baum says that he came from Zurich just for this. Strauss does not know Captain Geissler. Herr Baum says that he is General Mueller's confidential aide. Hogan, Carter, Baker, and LeBeau are listening in on the conversation on the coffee pot.
Later, Geissler arrives. Baum reads the agreements. Baum, Strasser, and Geissler talk about the document. The agreement is to arrest and execute Hitler, surrender to the Allies, sign a peace agreement, and give Mueller safe passage to Argentina with a large sum of money. Strauss objects violently. Hogan tells Baker to tell Newkirk to stand by. Strauss starts to call Mueller, but then stops. Strauss reluctantly signs the agreement 'on behalf of General Mueller'; Baum and Geissler then leave with the signed agreement. Baum and Geissler head to the car. On the way out, Carter bumps into Geissler, asks for a cigarette, and LeBeau pushes him into Geissler. Carter. during the ruckus, somehow takes the envelope with the agreement. Shortly later, Hogan shows the agreement to Klink. Klink is surprised as to what he sees. Hogan convinces him to go to General Burkhalter in Berlin.
Klink then goes to Berlin and sees General Burkhalter. Burkhalter reads the agreement and does not like what he sees. He goes to see General Mueller and talks with him about it. Mueller says that he knows nothing about it. Burkhalter gives Mueller two alternatives: either move the Gestapo out of STALAG 13, or Burkhalter will give the agreement to Hitler personally. Mueller says that he is loyal and that Hitler would not believe Burkhalter. Burkhalter starts to make a phone call; Mueller bangs the receiver down, and says that he will make arrangement for the Gestapo to move out.
Klink goes back to camp; Burkhalter and Mueller go to STALAG 13 and arrest Strauss. Mueller leaves. Burkhalter asks Klink how he arranged it. Klink says that there are some things that just can't be told, not even to Burkhalter. Hogan says that he can believe that.
At the end, Klink and Hogan are walking in the compound celebrating that the Gestapo is gone; everything is in perfect order. Hogan asks for more hot water and white bread; Klink denies the request. Klink then asks Hogan how he got the letter; Hogan asks for the hot water and white bread again, and Klink agrees. Hogan tells Klink that there are things that just can't be told, especially to Klink.
