- For Colonel Hogan's birthday his crew decides to give him one ammunition dump freshly destroyed.
- Hogan goes to the movie theater in town, meeting a contact with the local underground. She informs him that the Gestapo are planning to make known false secret information at the Stalag in hopes of uncovering the organization who have wreaked havoc with nearby military installations. At the same time Major Hochstetter is in Klink's office setting his devious plan in motion by describing a situation that makes an ammunition depot vulnerable to a bomb attack, all the while knowing that Lebeau is just outside of the open window. Meanwhile, the remainder of the Heroes are having difficulty deciding what to give Hogan for his birthday. When Lebeau informs them of what he has overheard, the group agree that the perfect gift, to be kept secret from Hogan, will be an ammo dump. They have fallen into the Gestapo trap.—Harry Tumilson
- At the start, Hogan goes into a movie theater in Hammelburg, as they are showing newsreel highlights of the latest war actions from the German side, The narration is in English. He sees an Underground agent and sits next to her. He gives her the code words: Has the cartoon started yet; she replies yes, it had animals, the three bears; Hogan then gives the code words papa bear and mama bear. Just then, a Gestapo agent in a standard business suit and raincoat comes in; she kisses Hogan so he does not see their faces. When he leaves, she tells Hogan that the Germans are suspicious of STALAG 13 because of all the sabotage in the area. The Gestapo will set a trap and watch out; there is to be no sabotage until further notice. The Gestapo agent comes back, and she kisses Hogan again. They have picked up 3 agents in the Hammelburg area recently. Hogan is secretly wanting the Gestapo agent to come back.
In Klink's office, Klink is dictating a letter to Hilda asking for more guards. Major Hochstetter comes in and says that he has top secret information. He opens the windows to the outside so others can hear; Klink does not understand why, and Hochstetter asks him what the prisoners are going to do with the information. Hochstetter says that a radar with the 112th Radar Batallion is broken, equipment is out of commission, and an ammo dump in Braunschweiger Pass is vulnerable. Klink gets on the phone, wants to talk to Sergeant Hoffenberger in the motor-pool. Hochstetter closes the window and shows a note to Klink; Klink hangs up the phone and asks what is going on. Hochstetter says that the Gestapo is setting a trap, and he tries to explain it.
In the barracks, Newkirk, Carter, and Kinchloe are talking about a birthday party for Colonel Hogan, and what to get him for a birthday present. Carter suggests some things; Kinch said that if it was his party, he would give him an autographed copy of Mein Kampf. LeBeau comes in and tells them about what he heard, about the radar being out. He heard Hochstetter telling Klink about it. Newkirk wants to give Hogan an ammo dump as a birthday present. Kinch sends a message to London about the ammo dump in Braunschweiger pass and the radar being out. Schultz comes in, asks about the party, and brings a few things leftover from his nephew Wolfie's party, some decorations, hats, and favors. Schultz leaves. Hogan comes up through the tunnel, and tells the men that the Gestapo is setting a trap; they are suspicious of the area. No activity until further notice. Newkirk, Carter, and LeBeau do not tell Hogan about what LeBeau heard.
Hogan goes to his office, Kinch comes up and says that London is sending bombers. Newkirk says that LeBeau fell into a trap, and says to call off the mission. Kinch hurries back down into the tunnel to send a cancel message. Hogan comes out of his office and tells them not to send any more messages, there is a radio detector truck in the compound. Don't send messages, it could jeopardize the operation. Newkirk, Carter, and LeBeau hurry down into the tunnel, and tell Kinch about the radio detector truck. LeBeau quickly shuts off the transmitter switch to the antenna. A technician in the truck gets a signal, then loses it before he could find where the signal came from. Newkirk, Kinch, Carter, and LeBeau talk in the tunnel about stopping the mission. Carter says that they don't have to worry about what to get Hogan for his birthday.
Still down in the tunnel, Newkirk is talking about what happened. He blames it on LeBeau. They are thinking about how to contact London to cancel the mission. Carter suggests to do it through the Underground. Newkirk ignores him while thinking and talking some more. Carter again suggests that they use the Underground. Newkirk ignores him and talks some more; Newkirk finally says that they do it through the Underground.
LeBeau goes to the movie theater, and meets the Underground agent. He gives her the code, about the Frankfort Zoo being bombed, about Papa Bear not being hurt; she answers about the Mama Bear. A Gestapo agent comes in, so she kisses LeBeau. She tells LeBeau that they had to disband the Underground unit because of the Gestapo activity. They can't send any radio message because they dis-assembled the radio. LeBeau starts to leave, and asks her who kisses better, LeBeau or Hogan; she says that this information is a military secret. LeBeau kisses her on the side of the forehead on his way out.
Schultz comes to the barracks talking about the party. He suggests making a German chocolate cake; Kinch asks him if he would serve an American cheese sandwich on rye to Hitler. Schultz thinks not. Carter is cutting out a pin the tail on the donkey set, and with Newkirk is putting party hats and other things in a box. Schultz leaves. LeBeau comes up through the tunnel, with lipstick on his face, and tells them the information. Newkirk says to cancel the party. Just then, Hogan comes in, and says that he knows about the surprise birthday party. LeBeau says that he wants to get him an ammo dump as a birthday present. Hogan says that he takes a size 40 regular in an ammo dump. AMMO DUMP? LeBeau tells Hogan about what happened. Newkirk, Carter, Kinch, and LeBeau argue about whose fault it is, and all want to put the blame on themselves. After thinking, Hogan says to have the party, with roman candles in the center of the cake. To load the candles, get gunpowder from Schultz's cartridges.
Schultz comes in to talk about the party. Newkirk wants to teach Schultz the pin the tail on the donkey game. They blindfold Schultz and Newkirk takes his belt off while blindfolded. Schultz walks around trying to find the donkey blindfolded, while Newkirk, Carter, LeBeau, and Kinch take cartridges out of his belt and take the gunpowder out of them.
That night the prisoners are outside popping corn. Two guards bring the cake out; it has 4 large candles, 2 regular candles and 2 roman candles. Carter takes aim, and turns the cake so that it at just the right angle. Schultz is told to light the candles; Carter interrupts, telling him which one to light first. Schultz lights the candles; Carter asks Hogan to make a wish; Hogan says that he made the wish. Then the roman candles shoot their load into the door of the radio detector truck.
Kinch is in the tunnel by the radio, looking at his watch. At the right time, he turns the transmitter on and sends a quick message to cancel the bombing mission. Klink sees the smoke and says that something is wrong with the truck, and tells Schultz to check it out. Schultz says to save him a piece of cake. Hogan says that this is the nicest party he has ever had, and cuts the cake.
At the end, Hochstetter is in Klink's office. He asks Klink how the radio detector truck got put out of action. Klink says that it was a million to one shot that the candles would hit the truck. What candles? What cake? Hogan comes in and said that he saved some cake for Klink and Hochstetter. Hochstetter tells Klink that he has done what millions of allied soldiers could not do: bring the Third Reich to its knees. Hochstetter leaves; Hogan calls him a party pooper. Hogan eats Hochstetter's piece of cake, and Klink eats his.
