Warning: Spoilers
Jonathan learns that his wife, Jane(to whom he was married before he was an angel)is dying. He assumes that he will be reunited with her in Heaven. When God refuses to let him join Jane, Jonathan becomes enraged and loses his angelic powers. Jonathan refuses Marks help and they go their separate ways. Jonathan is roaming the beach and witnesses a distraught woman attempting to drown herself. He saves her and returns her to her home. After an initial brush off the woman, Jennifer Simms (played by the beautiful LeAnn Hunley) and Jonathan become friends and even fall in love. Jonathan is torn between the new love that he is developing and guilt over his wife. Nevertheless, Jonathan continues to fall for the dynamic Jennifer. The two spend several weeks together at Jennifer's beach house and become very close. In the end, Jonathan learns that Jennifer is actually Jane, and in a secret letter she tells him that after they spend time serving God apart they will be together forever. Jonathan and Mark are reunited and resume their "assignments".

LeAnn Hunley gives an outstanding performance in the part of Jennifer. Michael Landon plays the heartbroken Jonathan flawlessly. This is one of the best (maybe THE best) Highway to Heaven episodes. In a word... it is PERFECT.

Sequel

Probably in a sequel compelled by popular demand, the series grapples with the fate of Jane Thompson from S2 Keep Smiling. The thought, time, and effort put into this production is quite evident and well done on multiple levels.

Driven by anger at god's disappointing news, Jonathon rebels against god and loses his powers. Walking along the beach, Jonathon spots a woman (Leann Hunley) who tries to kill herself and he ends up saving her life. He becomes close with this woman---Jennifer---and she helps him find his way back to god. When her mission is complete, she helps to reunite Jonathon and Mark where Mark----------(SPOILER-------- hands him a goodbye letter from Jennifer-------------------------(SPOILER)----------------who it turns out is really an angel. Who it turns out is really------Oh you will just have to watch it to see.

This episode is so worth watching. It really is one of the best episodes of any TV show I have ever seen. It also leaves the story open for a Highway To Heaven spin off.
