A commercial for the Airforce Academy

Warning: Spoilers
While this is a commercial for the Air Force Academy, there is still value to this episode. I was born in 1969 and my first exposure to Lucy was "Here's Lucy." I had no clue about "I Love Lucy" or "The Lucy Show" as a young kid. Lucy seemed to be an old woman from the perspective of a four-year-old in 1973. However, I am now 54 years old and just a few years younger than Lucy was in 1969. She is a remarkably attractive woman. In the scene where she leaves the RV to stretch out in the morning in her pajamas, she looks stunning. I just wanted to point out that at age 58 Lucy still had it!

This was filmed on location, and it is worth viewing just for getting a look at the Academy in 1969. The officers at the Academy would not put up with Lucy and her antics. She would not make it there on campus more than one hour. I gave seven stars because of the beauty of the location.

Basically an Infomercial Promoting the Air Force
kgraovac29 November 2023
The Carters trek to Colorado in a mobile home so that Craig can check out the Air Force Academy as a post-high school career option.

This is the second HERE'S LUCY episode to be shot single-camera style and essentially the first of a four-part story arc to open Season 2. Lucy's comedy needs a live audience to be funny and there is an odd, static feel to these episodes.

Lucy is left stranded outside the base in her babydoll nightie, causes an emergency evacuation by pulling the fire alarm, then tries to blend in with the cadets. It's all meant to liven up what is basically Lucille Ball making a Public Service Announcement for the Military at a time when support is very low.

Roy Roberts, who appeared on THE LUCY SHOW as Mr. Cheever is called back to active duty here as the General. When he and Lucy are trapped in an elevator together because she accidentally pressed the wrong button, Ms. Ball overacts to the point of absurdity. She may have been able to get away with it on a three-camera sitcom, but in this context her limited range becomes glaringly obvious.
