Storyline
Did you know
- TriviaJeff Daniels, in his first major role as the leader of the young crooks, inadvertently said "Garrett" in place of "McGarrett" during an apology. Jack Lord went ballistic, screamed his lungs out at Daniels (evidently he was still on a roll from the rant he was supposed to deliver in character) and stormed off to his trailer. Daniels has said he expected to be fired on the spot, saying to himself: "Well, at least I got a vacation in Hawaii out of it."
- GoofsThe ramp is visible behind the stationary vehicle after the HPD car crashes it from behind.
- Quotes
Det. Steve McGarrett: You gravely injured a police officer. Now he's probably going to be all right. But you'll go to prison for a long time, and when you get out, you're felons! Indelibly marked! My God, what a waste.
- Crazy creditsToward the end of the closing credits. Pau and the end appear on a picture of two glasses of cocktails.
- ConnectionsReferenced in Late Night with David Letterman: Episode dated 17 July 1990 (1990)

Make it stop!!
I have so far watched and reviewed every episode of "Hawaii Five-O" up to this season 12 klunker. The bottom line is that up through season 10, the show was great. But starting in season 11, the scripts got more and more limp because it looks like they just ran out of ideas. On top of that, much of the cast was replaced for season 12--making it a chore to finish up the final few episodes.
"The Flight of the Jewels" is another bad episode from this god-forsaken season! The robbery (just like the one in the previous episode) is way too complicated and silly to be believed and the very end is just plain stupid!!
A group of three nerds (including a young Jeff Daniels) have planned a weird robbery. Using a radio-controlled model airplane, some homemade gas as well as a home-made gas mask, they orchestrate the theft of Queen Liliuokalani's crown jewels. You just have to see it to believe it...and I still don't!!
In the end, the three smart idiots end up nearly getting themselves killed by an evil gangster. But, thanks to an amazingly hastily built model plane and a bomb, the forces of goodness manage to stop the evil gangsters.
Dumb...silly...and, um...dumb. There's just no other way to describe all this!
