This show marks the first appearance by Al Harrington. He would appear five more times in supporting roles before becoming a permanent cast member starting in season five.
The score, while credited to Morton Stevens, includes music originally composed by Richard Shores for The Night of the Big Blackmail (1968).
"Ain't No Big Thing" was almost an unofficial second theme song for the first season. It was written by Kui Lee and recorded by many performers, including Don Ho, The Brothers Cazimero and Kawika Crowley. In Tiger By The Tail ( #1.3)Bobby George sings it in his night club act. McGarrett alludes to the song in "....And They Painted Daisies On His Coffin" (#1.5) when he tells Big Chicken, "Ain't no big thing, bruddah." In "No Blue Skies" (#1.8), Joey sings the optimistic chorus. In "The Box" (#1.16) Big Chicken sings it in the shower.
Gerald S. O'Loughlin, who played Charlie Swanson, appeared in a later episode, "Six Kilos". His last name was Swanson also, but his first name was Carl, not Charlie.
