The container ship appearing in this episode was the SS Transontario. It hauled containerized cargo between the US West coast, Hawaii and other points in the Pacific. The ship served as a tanker in the western Pacific in the latter part of WWII and was converted to a container ship in 1969. Owing to Seatrain Lines financial difficulties, it was sold to Matson Lines in 1974 and eventually disposed of for scrapping in 1979.
During this episode, McGarett is on the Big Island testifying at the trial of Johnny Oporta, who was the central character in "No Bottles, No Cans, No People". When Johnny was arrested, He was charged with 7 counts of first-degree murder. At the end, McGarrett informs Danny that Johnny was convicted of 3 counts of first-degree murder. This would have been for Phil Hurley, Peter Yanos, and Sally Hodges.
