I didn't see this one live; I was away and college and I'm glad as it would have depressed me about the fate of the show as it entered a new season.
Watching J&J flying down the highway on their wedding-night bed, smashing through a fruit stand and other assorted obstacles, only to be suspended at the edge of a cliff (for what turned out to be no big deal) maxed out my action-comedy appreciation for the next ten years. This type of slapstick works well when Gilligan and the Professor have a snafu driving in their little island car, but not on this show. The fact this is somewhat repeated later with a Volkswagen tells me this is not a one-time aberration, and I worry about the future of the series. It seems like it's morphing into a fifties-style madcap comedy program, and it's an awkward look.
Aside from that silliness, there are other creative weaknesses in the episode. For example, why start it with Jonathan buying the wrong bed and then having Jennifer point out that it's missing the headboard design? That scene took up about 15 minutes of the episode and was totally unnecessary. Why not just have J&J reminisce about their upcoming anniversary, decide to go to Napa, and then get the idea to buy their honeymoon suite bed? This is non-economical writing.
Other gripes: When Jennifer opens the barn door, I am aghast at her outfit. The jacket and pants clash horribly! And while another poster has mentioned RW's supposed aging, I am much more concerned about his hairstyle. Was there a Wardrobe and Makeup Department strike this year? Lordy. Bring Back Season One!
