Cecily
Prismark1012 May 2023
The Goodies are out of work and they take up employment to care for a young girl called Cecily.

Tim is the nanny, Bill is the cook and Graeme is the gardner. All three seem to be unprepared for housekeeping duties. Graeme's weedkiller is a mallet and the weed seems to be pervasive.

Bill meanwhile uses a record player to spin his dough and ends up making some pottery from the dough.

It is Tim who catches something disturbing when he goes to see Cecily. The skeletal remains of the previous nanny.

Cecily tells the Goodies that she likes all her nannies but they end up dead. Her creepy aunt and uncle are after her inheritance. The Goodies have no option but to help Cecily escape.

If the first half of the episode was a runaround romp, especially Graeme trying to weed while Tim falls into the pond as he is blown away by the kite. A segment used in the opening titles.

The second half is more psycho inspired. Certainly with haunted house type scares. There seems to be genuine fear about, no wonder the Goodies do not want to hang about but there is one more twist.

The first series was a work in progress and this is certainly a different type of a Goodies episode.

Nanny Knows Best!

Warning: Spoilers
The Goodies are out of work, with no offers of employment forthcoming. Then a creepy elderly couple hires them to act as nanny ( Tim ), cook ( Bill ), and gardener ( Graeme ) for one day. They entrust the Goodies with the responsibility of caring for Cecily, their niece. Cecily claims to be the heir to a vast family fortune her aunt and uncle are determined to possess. Even if it means resorting to murder...

The only 'Goodies' episode to give me nightmares ( Tim wasn't alone in having hysterics on seeing Cecily's last nanny reduced to a grinning skeleton in a rocking chair. Not even 'Psycho' had that effect on me. ). This is a delightfully demented episode, containing some terrific film sequences, most notably Graeme in the garden ( no pun intended! ), and Tim taking Cecily out to play.

Ann Way was 'Mrs.Hall' in the 'Fawlty Towers' classic 'Gourmet Night', while Jill Riddick, who plays 'Cecily', was familiar to viewers as Wendy Craig's daughter 'Amanda' in 'Not In Front Of The Children'.

Funniest moment - Tim running with a kite, and falling in the river!
