- Willona Woods' new boyfriend Jeffery showers Penny with many expensive gifts, but Willona is not sure they should be moving so fast with their relationship. She lets Penny keep a 100% silk dress, but draws the line at a brass bed. Penny is miffed, because Willona initially said she could have anything that made her happy. However, after another great date, Willona allows Penny to accept the gift, and agrees to host a party with Jeffery in the apartment for the next day. As he leaves, he bumps into a mysterious, fur-draped, sunglassed lady in the elevator. But they know each other -- she removes the shades and reveals herself as Penny's birth mother, Ms. Gordon. It turns out that she's hired Jeffery to help her set up Willona for a fall, in a scheme we will see after the commercial break.
The Evanses, Penny, and Willona are all in the Woods apartment waiting for Jeffery and his guests. A bunch of riff-raff come streaming in: drug addicts, thugs, and the like. Willona and Florida ask "Who ARE these friends, Jeffery?" He tries to play it cool. The next thing you know, two undercover cops come in and arrest all the guys, including Bookman and Michael. Then Ms. Gordon enters with a photographer, who takes a picture of Willona & Penny with a cop arresting one of the unsavory characters. She plans to prove Willona an unfit mother. Willona tries to tell the officers that she doesn't know these people, but when she calls on Jeffery to corroborate, he claims they're not his friends either.
The apartment empties, leaving Willona and Penny with Ms. Gordon and Jeffery. Ms. Gordon tells Penny that she wants her back. She's re-married and her new husband is rich; they would live in the suburbs and would want for nothing. Ms. Gordon wants to reverse the adoption, and will use the pictures against Willona in court. Willona reminds her that Penny hasn't forgotten the physical abuse she suffered, and neither would Willona. Ms. Gordon says she won't really show the pictures, just use them as insurance. Penny seems to be considering living back with her. Ms. Gordon asks "what do you have that I can't give her?" Willona answers "Love." For some reason a tape recorder, another gift from Jeffery, has been recording everything, including that Ms. Gordon just confessed it was a set-up. Willona says "now I have something on you too!" Ms. Gordon asks Penny for the tape recorder, then Willona does too; Penny is visibly torn. Then Ms. Gordon tries to grab it from Penny, struggles with her, and Willona pushes her back. "Now tell me again that you've given up your violent ways!" she exclaims. Ms. Gordon trembles, Penny cries and tells Willona "let her have it; it doesn't matter; you'll always be my mother!"
Jeffery half-way apologizes in a sideways manner on his way out the door.
