Last episode of the series.
The extended 44-minute version of this episode shows the arrival of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and their "meet and greet"s, at the then BBC Television Centre. 40 years later, in 2018, this version became an historical document, as by then the entire site had been sold-off to an property company. All but Studios 1, 2 and 3 had been demolished, with the rest of the surviving buildings retro-fitted and or replaced as offices, apartments and other properties. This episode clearly states that it was recorded in Studio 6, which no longer exists. Also note, that unlike other episodes within the series run, the audience laughter within the episode seems more subdued, this is most likely due to the audience holding back as their Royal Family is in the audience. The BBC TV studio audience, or studio technicians, wouldn't normally be so formally dressed.
When Jerry and Tom are running along the sidewalk and stop to rest at the lamppost, they almost cause a traffic accident on the adjacent road. A car slows almost to a stop- apparently wanting to see what is going on- and is almost rear-ended by a truck.
Without the Royal pre and post meet and greet sequences, the actual episode comes in at the standard 30 minute duration. This second special episode also brings the series run up to a re-run friendly 30 episodes.
Blue Peter (1958) dog Goldie had urinated in the BBC TV Centre when presenter Simon Groom tried to get her to leave the building. The puddle was hastily mopped up by BBC staff as the Royal party got ever-nearer.
