Dolly (Stephanie Hill) makes fun of Gidget's (Sally Field) best friend Larue (Lynette Winter) in front of the the two at the beach. Larue isn't bothered too much, instead focusing on her desire to buy a horse named Snowball. Gidget is determined to make her over Pygmalion- style in "Project Larue". Gidget's father (Don Porter) talks with Larue one-on-one and picks her spirits up with a "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" talk. Gidget overhears her dad talking with Larue about the horse, and misunderstands as if the two have something going on. It's an outlandish concept, but some comedy came through- although not as good as I anticipated.

DID WE ALL GROW UP IN HOUSES WITH GREEN CARPET?
tcchelsey15 July 2023
First and foremost, that green, green carpeting going up the stairs in Gidget's house --looks mighty familiar? And I've seen it in a lot of houses back in the day! Aside from that, this is a fun episode for all us Gidget fans, and/or Sally Field fans.
It's MAKEOVER time for Larue (so well played by Lynette Winter) who has endured one too many insults. Everyone knew a Larue somewhere, sometime in their life and had to give them a pep talk.
Problem is... and there always is... Gidget's thoughtful dad has a fatherly chat with depressed Larue and one thing leads to another, Gidge thinks they are going together??? Gidge and Larue make a GREAT team and the banter between the two is unforgettable, though in this episode it has to be "the look" of utter, shudder suprise. By the way, toss a horse into the mathematics.
Lynette Winter went on to make several appearances on PETTICOAT JUNCTION and has resurfaced of late as a day school teacher in San Diego, and still acting in regional theater. A super episode to watch two best friends hang out and jump to wacky conclusions. Like we all did.
You can always tell when a good director is in charge, none other than Gene Reynolds, the best. Gene later was producer for MASH.
10 Stars.
SEASON 1 EPISODE 11 remastered color/Columbia dvd box set.
