REVIEW BY USER JORDAN HALL...
asuthnfatboy29 September 2018
In a previous user review by Jordan Hall, Jordan states, "It's hard not to find similarities in Peter Duel's John and Dick York's Darrin in mannerisms, dialogue, and even appearance and voice."

I was just watching season 01, episode 05 - "Gidget's Gadget" and had noticed the VERY same thing as stated by Jordan prior to researching if anyone else had noticed similarities. In my search I Googled, "similarities between dick york and peter duel" and ran across a listing for Jordan's review for the episode, "In God, and Nobody Else, We Trust(Sep 22, 1965)" which I found to be a great episode. John was such a gas! Ha!Ha!

It was cool to see someone else noticed the same exact thing! :-) MAN I love these old classics!! Takes me back to my early youth!!

IN GIDGET WE TRUST, ONCE IN AWHILE?
tcchelsey23 December 2023
There is a bit of similarity between GIDGET and DOBIE GILLIS, as we find Gidge the reflecting narrator of each episode. And it works well.

She's got a whole lot to talk about in this one... Gidge is official chairman of the high school luau. Translation: lots of dancin' on da' beach, and it's a wild 60s shindig time! There is a problem; Gidget has no date... so... who else but analytical brother-in-law John is elected. A wise choice, considering he wants to analyze teens for his psychological college doctorate? Ya think?

John promises to drop the "research" and go with Gidget as a buff surfer dude called Panther! Peter Duel is pretty darn good in this role, and fun to watch, and boasts some good muscle power.

Two special guests stars; Canadian actress Beverly Adams plays Treasure. Prior to this episode, Beverly played Cassandra in the cult film, HOW TO STUFF A WILD BIKINI. It made good sense she was in this story. Later in her career she made headlines marrying Vidal Sasoon and became a spokesperson for the company.

Heather North plays Pokey, who went on to become one of the most successful voice actresses in Hollywood, playing Daphne in the SCOOBY DOO series and many other cartoons and animation projects. She is missed (having passed in 2017), and few voice actors to this day have been able to capture her range of characters.

This should have been the FIRST episode as its a real classic, and not to miss Professor Lawrence dressed as a beach hippie! By the way, Gidge looks fabulous in pink.

A gotsta' see on all levels. SEASON 1 EPISODE 2 remastered color Columbia dvd box set.

The Subject Was Trust
JordanThomasHall4 July 2017
Gidget (Sally Field) is chairman of the class luau, but doesn't have a date. Continuing from the previous episode, she is wearing Jeff's ring with the understanding of going steady while he's away at Princeton, but able to see other people. She tells everyone how much trust she and Jeff have in one another and that no other guy could interest her. Somehow, she didn't see how this would affect dates until talking it over with her father (Don Porter). They figure her brother-in-law John (Pete Duel) would be perfect since none of the kids know him. The psychology student agrees as a means to do research on teens. Anne reminds Gidget to not mention any of the implicit trust, as it's only for married people like her and John. When Anne sees how attractive John is with his Marlon Brando appearance and how attractive the girls are that going to the dance, she becomes worried.

This episode was directed by "Bewitched" director William Asher. Additionally, it was produced by Bewitched producer Harry Ackerman and "Gidget" was filmed in a set next door to the fantasy sitcom. It's hard not to find similarities in Peter Duel's John and Dick York's Darrin in mannerisms, dialogue, and even appearance and voice. This is the first time Gidget breaks the fourth wall and also the first of her improvised "toodles".
