A quality episode.

General Sir Hector McGregor calls on the help of Commander Gideon, when he notices that his regiment's collection of silver, The Balaclava silver, has been taken and replaced with imitation, naturally McGregor wants the matter dealt with quietly.

There is a real richness to this episode, a touch of class, and more than a degree of quality. This is a tim where many, who served valiantly during two world wars were left with virtually nothing, support simply wasn't always readily available.

A bit of exploration into Gideon's character, we haven't really learned a great deal about him, learning a bit about his military background was good.

Very well made, some nice stock footage mixed in, and some gorgeous costumes.

Two actors really stood out, Allan Cuthbertson and Donald Pickering, two actors born to play villains. If you're keen you'll spot Graham Crowden and Gordon Jackson.

8/10.

Warning: Spoilers
General Sir Hector McGregor is the regiment head who informally calls up Gideon.

Sir Hector has noticed that The Balaclava Silver, the regiment's silver crockery is being replaced with fake replicas.

Commander Gideon makes discreet enquiries. The Scottish regiment is proud of its history but some of its members have money problems.

Not least is Sir Hector who has had gambling issues.

There are a lot of smarmy characters here. A fine performance from veteran Finlay Currie as the proud Sir Hector.

It might not be a surprise that the actual culprit wanted to help out the old man.

Routine TV ep.
Mozjoukine4 December 2013
One of the better episodes of this thoroughly routine sixties British TV cop series.

The honour of the regiment is at stake when it's antique silver goes missing. Gregson of the Yard is called upon to resolve the matter without besmirching the outfit's reputation and spends the episode talking to quite an impressive selection of British character actors - notably Finlay Currie and Gordon Jackson. The budget even runs to a loyalty toast with kilted officers and piper. The only intriguing element is that the dodgy characters, ever snotty Alan Cuthbertson and smarmy Pickering, are vindicated and the sympathetic officer has to take his toothbrush to the lock up.

The series leads are unable to animate their stock police heroes. They don't figure in those locating scenics pulled from library.
