One of the standout episodes.

Gideon has his work cut out for him, he's chasing a duo of thieves who are targeting society's wealthy. One burglary goes too far, when a young au pair is killed.

This was a cracking episode I thought, very gritty, quite violent and nasty for the time, perhaps the most graphic of the series. Interesting to see Gideon have to unpick the case and navigate all manner of obstacles placed in his path.

It made it a little interesting to see Gideon accused of assaulting a prisoner, the way he turns the tables on Casey however was really imaginative, a bit of a dirty trick, but it worked.

I loved the criminal duo, how on Earth would they have managed to track down someone like Todd, by day a respectable stockbroker, by night a villain with no limits.

Patrick Allen and Patrick Bedford are both excellent as the villains of the piece, Allen did a great line in villains, the combination of that hawk like face and penetrating voice, very good actor, much missed. Great to see a young Jean Marsh, what a career she would have in subsequent years.

This was quality, 9/10.

A Perfect Crime

A bored stockbroker called Todd joins up with a safe cracker called Casey.

Todd acquires information as to the whereabouts of the wealthy elites. When they are away, he knows just whose house is worth breaking into for their valuables.

In one job they are interrupted by a young au pair. Todd beats her senseless and she later dies.

When Casey is arrested after another break in. Todd finds himself under pressure.

So does Commander Gideon. He is accused of roughing up Casey in prison.

The episode has the old standard. A policeman on the beat who just happens to be randomly suspicious of a parked car.

Then there is Casey who sends his wife to demand money from Todd and make threats to him. Even though Casey fully knows just how nasty Todd can get.

At court Gideon does a demonstration to show the judge that Casey has a condition that makes him collapse when he sees blood. Gideon does this by showing him blood and once again Casey falls over.

Gideon was not responsible for the first incident. He recklessly placed Grady in danger for the second collapse and should had been suspended.
