Big blue flash....cherries everywhere
kclambeth22 July 2007
The Innkeepers is one of the best episodes in the entire eleven years.

It blends classic farce with many laughs. Frasier and Niles buy a restaurant, what could possibly go wrong? the chef walks out, they injure two waiters, the other staff run out when the immigration board turn up, so it's up to the Crane brothers to ask their family and friends to help.

The writing is great, each character has their own bit to do, even Gil and Bulldog appear away from the radio station and everything is a catastrophe. Frasier and Niles have no idea how to run a restaurant, it's funny because they're so smug that you love to see it all go wrong around them.

Highly recommended and everything you want in a sitcom is here, a strong plot, witty lines and a bit of chaos thrown in.

A genuine masterclass in farce
hughgorick13 June 2020
An exemplory episode that shows off how well Frasier does a slow build from sensible situations to outright anarchy.

As the brothers buy a restaurant and have their grand opening, things begin to slowly go wrong until utter chaos reigns, but every action is reasonable unless you can see the complete picture that we, the viewers, are treated to.

Honest and harmless side splitting humour at its best

Frasier at its best

This is a very, very good episode of 'Frasier', there is no doubt about that.

Mixing farce with some good funny lines, it's a fine example of the show at its best, in what has been a middling second series.

Part of the reason I enjoyed it is because we get out of the stuffy radio booth and allow all the main characters to be part of the fun.

It's a testament to all involved.

This is a non reality TV show
erichanson-3993810 December 2022
I see so many reviews saying this can't be real because the characters could not have this much money therefore this plot would be impossible. Last time I looked this was a sitcom. Sitcoms are anything based on reality. Think, I Dream of Jeanne, Mork and Mindy, Punky Brewster, Seinfeld, not to mention the mother of it all, I Love Lucy. The writers had one simple goal, make people laugh. Reality or laughter, you can't have both. Frasier is a show to make you laugh.

The reason for the above is in this episode the brothers buy a very fancy restaurant and even fix it up. Then on opening night everything goes wrong, leading to destruction. Very funny and definitely worth watching if your primary focus is on getting amused and not reality.

the best Frasier show until now
byzonoo19 January 2010
For the last 2 weeks I've been watching 4-5 Frasier episodes every evening.

This one was the one that made my cheeks hurt, especially in the last part when everything goes riot.

Frasier suggests a hilarious way to kill some eels, even more hilarious he suggest that Niles kill them.

Anyway Daphne is the one that grabs the bull by the horns and shows Niles how is done.

Bulldog has the final scene and what a scene it is.

Great show.

How Much Money Do These Guys Have?
Hitchcoc1 October 2019
I know this is entirely fictional, but how could Niles and Frasier possibly put a restaurant in operation in such a short time? Let alone have the resources to buy the place that was held in high esteem. If you can overlook that, this is to die for. There are continuous sight gags and conflicts that never end. I can't begin to explain without creating spoilers. Trust me. Watch this.

Laugh out loud Fun
ab-8403824 January 2024
My husband and I are rewatching Frazier in 2024. After the reboot episodes last year, we decided to go back and watch the original series.

We've really enjoyed several episodes along the way, but I have to say this episode was so funny and so extremely laugh out loud crazy that it reminded us why we so much love Frasier so much.

The whole cast is involved in the story, and they all are spectacular. Honestly I have no idea how they kept a straight face in the last 10 to 15 minutes!!!!!!

Thank you to the cast for making such a zany and fun episode that we will enjoy again and again and again!!!!

The episode that gives "Lucy" a hard kick in the *** (or ****, if you prefer)
grizzledgeezer12 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The seemingly eternal popularity of "I Love Lucy" evades me. It wasn't particularly funny 60+ years ago ("You'll Never Get Rich" and "The Great Gildersleeve" (on radio) were far better), and it endlessly recycles two plots: Lucy wants to get into show biz, or Lucy does something stupid/foolish that's supposed to evoke howls of laughter. *

"The Innkeepers" appears to be the first "Frasier" episode that shows how farce //should// be done. It has an implausible situation (who'd loan Niles and Frasier the money to renovate a restaurant?) capped by three great visual gags you'd never expect in an "intellectual" comedy.

The first is one of the high points of TV comedy (I couldn't stop laughing), and the second is pure "Lucy" (but so much better), that Kelsey Grammar has trouble keeping a straight face.

There were other great farce episodes, notably the one in which Niles and Frasier throw a party at Maris's beach house ("The Seal Who Came to Dinner"), and "Are You Being Served?", whose climax involves a can of hot shaving cream. (It's also the episode in which Niles and Frasier discover they're named after lab rats.)

A few stuffy critics didn't like "Frasier" indulging in physical humor, but these are among the series' best episodes.

* One might argue that "Frasier" took //its// running gag and eventually ran it into the ground -- a pompous, self-centered psychiatrist so devoid of self-awareness he can't make the changes needed to be happy.

Another "money no object" episode
gb90110 June 2019
So the brothers decide on a whim to purchase one of their favourite restaurant - as you do! Spend a small - or more probably a large - fortune renovating it and guess what ...it ends in abject failure. However, that's the last we hear of it and Les Freres hereaux is never mentioned again. Time and time again episodes revolve around money being not an obstacle to the two crane bris and invariably scrapes and episodes are tied up by getting the cheque book out.

Was there a writer's strike?
gina-reino25 February 2022
Ugh! I dread sitcoms that play this card. I'm guessing the writers were on strike and everyone was at Kelsey Grammar's on a bender and came up with this very predictable, unfunny episode.
