Regular bowler Lou Fielding comes to the island to compete against some professionals. Roarke tells him he will be the best bowler he can be for 48 hours. And Lou thinks he has the brass ring but his wife reminds him that once they leave, Lou reverts back to his original skill level. Lou runs into a bookie he knows and decides to put everything on him to win. But when the tournament is interrupted, Lou will pass the 48 hour limit. In the second story, Naomi Giddings, who once ran one of the best circuses around, comes to the island for a reunion of her circus performers. But she asks for the reunion to find out if one of them is trying to kill her. Two people who worked with her in her circus were killed and there are a few attempts on her life. The prime suspect is Richard Simmons, a performer who sustained a career-ending injury that made him a bitter alcoholic.
