Synopsis

  • "Baby": Little Patrick Apacarr can't walk or talk yet, but he has a fantasy: he needs a home and loving parents to raise him. He was the son of a native island girl named Alicia Macapu, who with her husband was killed in a car wreck. This news stuns Tattoo, who remembers Alicia as a child and thus takes it as his personal mission to find Patrick "the best home in the world". When he thinks Roarke isn't making enough effort in that direction, he takes over the search for the best prospective parents himself. Meantime Tattoo is bonding with little Patrick and being assisted in the baby's care by Mary, another native islander who is temporarily working at Roarke's resort while her husband Thomas' broken leg heals. The more time Tattoo spends with the baby, the closer he grows to him -- till he decides to adopt Patrick himself. Roarke approves his petition, pending formalities; and in the meantime Tattoo witnesses the trials of Mary and Thomas' young son Kiko, who wants a baseball glove so he can play with the other kids. Kiko gets five dollars for selling a ukulele his father carved for him, intending to buy a mitt with the money; but later Tattoo sees Kiko playing ball sans glove and asks what happened. Kiko tells Tattoo he contributed the money to buy his little brother new shoes for school, because family helps each other out. Tattoo is left to ponder this, and realizes he can't adopt Patrick after all, for he wants Patrick to have a real family -- mother, father, brothers and sisters. Sorrowful, but knowing he's doing the best thing for the baby, Tattoo turns Patrick over to Mary and Thomas to raise. "Marathon: Battle of the Sexes": The Big Beaver Barbell factory in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, is in financial trouble, and needs a shot of cash and exposure to turn its business around. Bunny Kelly and Gretchen Wassermann, friends and co-workers there, bring young athlete Olaf Olafsen to the island as their representative in the Fantasy Island Marathon being held that weekend. But before the competition can even get under way, Olaf is put out of commission by (in)famous sports physician Dr. R.M. Funk, who wants his own protégé, Bruno, to win. Gretchen talks Bunny into taking Olaf's place in the marathon. As the race progresses, Funk picks off other contestants one by one, using nefarious means to do so, till finally Roarke catches on to Funk's cheating and turns the tables on him. He changes a sign pointing the way to the finish line before Funk sneaks in and changes it back to the correct direction, sending Bunny Kelly and Eugene "Clean Machine" Bodine off to what Funk thinks is their doom. Instead Funk and Bruno are sent in the wrong direction, and Bunny and Eugene win the marathon together. Big Beaver Barbells is saved, and Bunny and Eugene become a couple, along with Gretchen and Olaf.
