Susan Goldberg was inspired to write this story after the MGM commissary was purchased and all the women who had been working there for years lost their jobs and got nothing.
The first cut of the show ran about twenty minutes too long, so it was decided to cut the entire B-story out and just focus on Reggie and Rose.
Michael McGreevey recounts that they were initially hesitant to bring up the possibility of Carol Burnett guest starring to her daughter, Carrie Hamilton, as she wanted to be accepted on her own grounds. But by season six (her second season on the show), Hamilton had become very comfortable in her role and they finally convinced her to ask her mother to appear on the show.
