Back when Cuba was THE place to go!
planktonrules6 February 2021
Walter Hazlett (Tim O'Connor) is a very desperate man. His 'friends' with the Cosa Nostra have ordered him to be killed and the FBI is looking for him. In desperation, he boards a plane bound for Jacksonville, Florida and ends up hijacking the flight....demanding to be taken to Cuba! Can the FBI both stop the hijacking and capture Hazlett in order to get him to testify against his ex-friends?

I was very young when this episode of "The FBI" debuted. But one thing I remember clearly is that during the late 60s and into the early 70s, there was a spate of skyjackings and most seemed to demand they fly to Cuba, as the criminals assumed they wouldn't be extradited back to the States. Because of this, the plot is rather realistic. Overall, a well written and tense episode...well worth seeing.

The Cosa Nostra, again, but with panache!

Warning: Spoilers
As I said in an earlier review, The F.B.I. used the Cosa Nostra as the bad guys on numerous occasions. However, with this story by John D.F. Black--and with him sharing Teleplay (I love that old term) credit--this episode is a taut and tight entry. Don't forget that John D.F. Black was one of 2 Associate Producers during the first season of Star Trek; and he was instrumental in giving Hawaii Five-0 its footing in their first season with several excellent early episodes.

All players involved did a fine job. A standout is the veteran Ken Lynch who plays a Mafia boss to perfection: not too much/not too little. Just right.

Really, though, the script was the star. The story moves at such a good clip.....no dragging....

All in all, this might just be the best episode of the 5th season.

I wish they made TV like this today. Sigh.......
