Soviet Stowaway

The USS Appleby is two miles off the northern coast of the Soviet Union. Ensign O'Toole (Dean Jones) looks out a porthole to see a girl. Everyone thinks he is going crazy until Commander Stoner (Jack Albertson) and Lt. St. John (Jack Mullaney) spot the girl hiding in O'Toole's closet. Anna (preeminent Russian character actress Nina Talbot, Marya of "Hogan's Heroes") is a Russian ballet dancer escaping from the Iron Curtain who wants to go to America to dance with the Rockettes. When she stepped on board the ship, she entered a unique situation where she is granted asylum and will be taken back to America as a guest. The men make a dress for her press conference in Washington. There was an attempt to interject some heart into the episode but I think it fell flat with a weak plot and little comedy. Hurting this episode the most is watching Nina Talbot's talents wasted, as her entire dialogue consisted mostly of repeating "touch football".
