In the scene where Dr. Luca Kovac confronts the drug sales representative about taking "packages of drugs to the Congo," visible above Dr. Kovac left shoulder on the patient board is the name "Bush GW" with a "Chief Complaint" of a symbol that looks like an airplane followed by the number 72. In 1972, George W. Bush was suspended from the 187th Fighter Wing of the Alabama Air National Guard for a failure to take a required physical exam. George W. Bush was the sitting President of the United States when the episode was filmed.
Bob Newhart makes another appearance. Bob was originally an accountant in Chicago before he went on to famous comedy albumns in the 60s and hit tv shows in the 70s and 80s. Not surprised he made an appearance in this Chicago set show - including a scene walking around Chicago with Dr. Lewis
The game Kovacs is playing with Alex is Street Fighter II.
The title refers to the term "greater good" usually associated with the philosophy of utilitarianism or, as stated in the Star Trek universe, "the good of the many outweigh the good of the one".
It's suppose to be winter in Chicago. You can see a man on a cell phone with short sleeve shirt walking by Dr. Lewis and Ben while they are walking fully bundled up in winter clothes. The show is filmed in LA where it's warm.
