The destruction of the Road Runner was written into the storyline since the transportation crew could not locate the 1973/74 Road Runners used early in the series and as a last resort, used a 1971 Satellite hardtop coupe painted yellow with a black stripe (same in appearance to the Road Runner of the same era). American Motors submitted a bid to offer their vehicle line where a Jeep CJ-7 Laredo (known as the Dixie Jeep throughout the latter run of the series) was provided.
Daisy Duke's original car was a yellow 1974 Plymouth Road Runner. It was destroyed when it careened over a cliff, after the accelerator got stuck and the brakes went out, as Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane was chasing Bo and Luke in Daisy's car. When Bo and Luke realized the brakes wore out and had a big lead on Rosco, as he always liked to try and pursue them. Bo and Luke dove out the Daisy's automobile, less than a mile before the cliff and Daisy's 1974 Plymouth Road Runner plunged to destruction. With Bo and Luke's big lead, ahead of Rosco. Rosco thought that they were killed, he came to tears thinking his chasing them caused this catastrophe. He did a memorial salute to Bo and Luke Duke, stood still with a minute of silence, right at the cliff, where Daisy's yellow car had run off and exploded on the ground far below. Daisy's replacement vehicle (unveiled at episode's end) was a 1980 Jeep CJ7 with a huge eagle decal and the words "Dixie" emblazoned on the hood. After Bo and Luke told Daisy about her destroyed vehicle, she chased Bo and Luke out of the house, with an iron skillet in her hand just before she was given her replacement Jeep. Later, the following day she was a bridesmaid at the wedding. This episode, like all others, concluded with a happy ending, especially, for Daisy Duke receiving a new Jeep after the successful matrimony. The replacement vehicle, a gift from Suzy Holmes' (the runaway) father, C. J. Holmes, was a 1980 CJ-7 Jeep and was first noticed two episodes and four weeks earlier in Arrest Jesse Duke (1979), on Saturday, December 14th, 1979.
Daisy's yellow 1974 Plymouth Road Runner lasted only the first 26 complete episodes of The Dukes of Hazzard (1979)'s 146 episodes. It was destroyed & replaced in the 27th, The Runaway (1980). The last 119 episodes, Daisy Duke drove the 1980 Jeep CJ7.
Lance LeGault plays one of the two private investigators sent to find Suzy. In the 2004 video game The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee, LeGault took over the role of the Balladeer from Waylon Jennings, who passed away in 2002.
