The Library (1994)

Goofs

The Library

Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman

Edit

Continuity

Matthew just brought a herd of cattle to town. He has no place to keep them. He is helping Dr. Quinn with the books. It is impressive that he has that much free time.

Miscellaneous

Hypocritical to ban books in the library nextdoor to a saloon with hookers that are treated worse than indentured servants. Especially with a town mayor who cannot read.

Plot holes

It is unclear who built the book cases for the library.
It is illogical for Dr. Quinn and her family to sort the damaged books in the town green space.
Matthew just brought 171 head of cattle to town. It is unclear where he is keeping them.

Character error

The Reverend (and Jake) declare that the donated library books are unsuitable or spiritually unfit, and thus closes the library. The town goes into upheaval by book-burning, and then goes to church. Michaela then finds amongst the pile of burned books, a Bible, and thus presents it to the Reverend, during his sermon, with bold reflection of its deeply controversial stories and characters. Now the Reverend is a man of the cloth; which requires years of study and dedication to the faith, and indeed an oath to uphold that faith, upon position. The Reverend should have known about those controversial biblical stories, from his years of study and his daily Scripture readings. Yet he behaved hypocritically toward the library's questionable collection, and then reacts to Dr. Mike's bold spiritual reflection with shock and shame.
