- When his mother has to go to hospital, Peter Cronk needs a place to stay. The doctor isn't too keen, but Louise is busy with her candidature for headmistress.
- To his surprise, Martin learns that he is a governor of the local school. He agrees to serve but when he learns that Louisa Glasson is a candidate for the headmistress position, he warns her that she won't get any special favours. Martin also has to deal with an outbreak of a nasty skin rash among the students. When Mrs. Cronk is hospitalized after an accident in her fish and chip shop, the doctor reluctantly agrees to let her son Peter stay with him. Meanwhile, Bert Large decides to help Mrs. Cronk by keeping her shop open, over son Al's objections. Turns out his fish and chips are quite popular and with good reason.—garykmcd
- An outbreak of what the Doc suspects is Impetigo leads to problems for Louisa, who must decide whether to follow the Doc's orders to force the infected children to stay at home, or to help the parents by allowing the children to attend school. The decision is made harder by her impending interview to take over the job of Head Teacher - in front of a board of governors that (to his surprise) includes Doc Martin. Meanwhile, an accident in the Fish and Chip shop leaves Bert behind the fryers and the owner's son, Peter, in need of somewhere to stay while his mother is in hospital. His first choice is with none other than a certain Doctor Martin Ellingham..
- Louisa is interviewed for a position as headmistress and crosses Martin by insisting that children with a highly contagious disease should still come to school against the doctor's wishes. Peter stays with Martin after Peter's mother seriously burns her hands after an accident in her chip shop. Bert Large steps in to maintain the chip shop whilst Mrs. Cronk is hospitalised, only to find his "experience in the catering trade" is a little wayward.
