Trivia Despite the fact that the story takes place over a month after the Battle of Lexington and Concord, which began the American Revolution, King George speaks of "rumors of insurrection in America". Since news traveled slowly between the Americas and Europe (a sea voyage requiring 6 weeks was common), it is not surprising that word of the fighting had yet to reach the King. See more »
Goofs It is a common misconception that press gangs randomly seized landsmen from their homes as portrayed in the film. The power of press gangs to conscript men for the Royal Navy was limited by law to seafarers, including merchant seamen, longshoremen and fishermen. Also, a press gang could not have seized Harry. As the eldest son of the local squire, Harry was a gentleman and a member of the landed gentry. See more »
