This episode would have an unexpected impact on American television that no one at the time could have predicted. Richard Schaal, who plays the talk-show host, was married to the then unknown Valerie Harper. It was here that Mary Tyler Moore met Harper, beginning a life long friendship, and leading to their collaboration on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970) and subsequently to the Rhoda (1974) spin-off.
Last appearance of Sally's boyfriend Herman Glimscher in the series.
When Rob, Buddy and Sally are reading their fan mail, in the office, Buddy is reading from a postcard. The postcard Morey Amsterdam is reading from has the name "Rose Marie Guy" on it. "Guy" was Rose Marie's married name.
After Sally advertises for a husband on a late-night talk show, she receives a large bag of responses in the mail early the following morning, including a postcard from Honolulu, Hawaii. It would've been impossible for letters to have been mailed and delivered on the same day, let alone first thing in the morning. It would've taken at least a couple of days before she received responses.
The name of the talk show host...Stevie Parsons...is a combination of the names of the three popular talk show hosts of the time-- Steve Allen, Johnny Carson, and Jack Parr.
