Arthur Batanides and Sheldon Leonard in The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961)

Goofs

Big Max Calvada

The Dick Van Dyke Show

Edit

Continuity

As Rob is explaining how he was persuaded to write the act for Max Calvada's nephew, Laura is turning down the covers on one of the twin beds in their bedroom. As Rob approaches her she is leaning over the foot of the bed, but when the shot changes to a closeup of the two of them, Laura is suddenly standing upright and is several feet away from the foot of the bed.

Boom mic visible

When Max Calvada first comes into the office, the three writers cluster together behind Sally's desk. As Calvada goes to sit in a chair on the other side of the desk, the shot changes to an unusual wide shot of the whole office. This permits the shadow of the boom microphone to be visible above the heads of Rob, Buddy, and Sally as they speak to Calvada as long as this wide shot is used.

Character error

Upon being informed by Calvada that Kenny is to open at the Diamond Club, Rob correctly says, "You weren't thinking of opening Kenny at the Diamond Club", then erroneously says, "The Diamond spot is one of the top spots around".
Rob writes notes on comedy ideas while in bed, and he writes them right-handed. However, it is made clear in other episodes that Rob Petrie (like Dick Van Dyke) is left-handed.
