No Laughing Matter-Episode **1/2
edwagreen19 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Am reviewing the entire episode here-parts 1 and 2.

When a surgeon, Purnell Roberts, in a rather brief appearance, is scheduled to be honored and then mysteriously murdered, his estranged son, who he had argued with just before the murder, is the natural suspect.

Of course, Roberts, who had been having an affair, is on his 2nd wife, a cunning Dyan Cannon.

When the pendulum turns and Cannon is fingered for his murder, Dr. Sloan is able to provide evidence that she is not guilty. She is exonerated and his son is promptly arrested.

When Sloan finds out that he has been mistaken and that Cannon indeed was the killer, he sets out to get her. Remember she can't be subjected to the double jeopardy provision of the law.

The entire episode suffers because of the sidebar story. When Victoria's financial adviser begins stealing from her and she loses just about everything, she sets about trying to turn the tables on him with co-doctor Scott Baio. How they dress up-she looking just like a hooker is funny, but as their episode goes on, it becomes more and more unsettling. You can't wait for this part to be over.

Gets Tiresome
zombiemockingbird2 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The story of the woman killing her husband and getting away with it because she cons Dr Sloan, is good entertainment. Seeing Sloan get bamboozled is so unusual, and the whole story line is different and refreshing, as he sets out to torture her, and keep her from reaping the benefits of her deception.

Then we come to the secondary story line of Amanda losing all of her money. First off, I just don't buy it. I have a financial advisor handle my money, and I check my accounts EVERY SINGLE DAY, just to see what is going on and make sure everything is okay. How does someone of Amanda's supposed intelligence, never check anything, never hear anything, until she's completely bankrupt? Sorry, not buying it. That aside, the whole not telling anyone, living in the doctor's lounge, her and Jack's con...ridiculous, embarrassing and painful to watch. Then there's a third story of Jack and some woman he's trying to impress that is just stupid. They should have just done the double jeopardy story, cut it to one episode and completely dumped the ridiculous Amanda and Jack stories. Sometimes less is deinitely more.

Diagnosis Murder is excellent
safenoe8 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I think Diagnosis Murder is a product of the Clinton Administration, whereas Murder, She Wrote is progeny of Reagan-Bush definitely. Murder, She Wrote had a last gasp for survival by trying to await the outcome of the 1996 presidential election, but when it became clear Clinton would beat GOP candidate Dole, it was lights out for Jessica.

The JW Marriott Hotel appears in this episode, and it later is used for exterior shots for Community General Hospital. Also Amanda Marriott hotel later used as exterior for Community General Hospital Amanda gets her money back, and there' a philosophical discussion about value of self and money.
