Daria learns that just because you're old doesn't mean you can't still be shallow!
planktonrules7 March 2011
Ms. Li forces the kids to all volunteer to help others. Jane gets a job doing arts & crafts with kids in the hospital. Quinn and the Fashion Club collect clothing for the homeless. And, Brittany, Kevin and Daria read to the old folks in a nursing home.

Quinn and the Club totally screw up and collect almost nothing--mostly because, as usual, they only are thinking about themselves. Jane is thrown out of the hospital because of the goth artwork she has the kids do (such as changing the clowns on a mural to Mongol invaders). And, Daria is loathed by most of the old folks. Part of this is due to Daria's choice of stories and glum mood, but the oldsters also turn out to be as shallow as the students, as they LOVE Brittany and Kevin.

Overall, it's a cute episode and it's well worth seeing-and not just because you see 'the chocolate lady'--my favorite recurring obscure character.

All students must volunteer!
Tweekums6 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This episode sees Ms Li insist that all her students take part in a week of volunteering so that she... I mean the school will look good. Jane volunteers to do arts and crafts with sick children but as there is only one place left for that Daria ends up reading to people at an old people's home along with Britney and Kevin who mistakenly though 'seniors' meant senior students not old people! Britney and Kevin are surprisingly popular with the old people but Daria isn't as she lacks their bubbly tone. Quinn and the fashion club are equally unsuccessful as they try to find clothing to give to the homeless; their standards are just too high as they think giving the homeless anything that isn't fashionable is just adding insult to injury.

This was a fun episode; the amusingly inappropriate stories they read to the elderly provided a laugh as did Jane's explanation as to why she was thrown out of the children's hospital... it is just a shame that we didn't get to see her art; it sounded hilariously gruesome! Away from the student's volunteering Mr DeMartino provided some good laughs as he struggled to cope with the stupidity of some of his students. Over all this episode is well worth watching.
