Summaries

  • In his will, Bobby leaves 30% of Ewing Oil to Christopher, meaning Pam will be in control of those shares until the boy turns 18. Sue Ellen stumbles drunkenly in the city among the hobos and bag ladies.

Synopsis

  • Sue Ellen Ewing and Dusty Farlow left Bobby Ewing's funeral immediately. However, on their way off Southfork, Sue Ellen stops Dusty, and gets out of the car. Having a change of heart, she says she needs to talk to Miss Ellie and J.R. She confesses she wants a drink real bad, but says she won't go back to the bottle now. She insists on walking to the ranch house. Back at the house, the Ewing family attorney, Harv Smithfield, tells J.R. they will need to execute Bobby's will quickly. J.R. bristles at this, complaining that they should give the family time to grieve, but Miss Ellie agrees with Harv, and asks him to make the arrangements to read the will the next day. Elsewhere, Cliff Barnes tells Pam and Jamie that the coroner released Katherine's body. Jamie says she will make her burial arrangements. Cliff then asks Pam about a discussion she had with Harv.

While he is sitting alone outside. J.R. is approached by Sue Ellen. He expresses no interest in talking with her, or accepting her apology for leaving the funeral immediately. He tells her to go back to her bottle, to not even bother seeing Miss Ellie. He tells her she no longer exists to him or their son. She runs off. At Ray's house, he and Donna continue to talk things over between them, continuing their reconciliation. Ray tells his wife that what's past is past, and he'll try his hardest to make their marriage work.

That night, Sue Ellen is drunk at a bar, in another binge. She asks for another drink, but it's already past the bar's last call. The bartender refuses to serve her further. A man approaches her, agreeing that she's had enough, and offering her a lift home. He takes her purse and keys, then steals her car, leaving her alone on the street.

The next morning, Charlotte is tending the horses when Jack asks about Bobby's horse, Banjo. She pointedly refuses an offer to ride the ranch with her. In the house, Clayton Farlow is calling Dusty to report Sue Ellen missing. Miss Ellie is concerned she's been drinking again, though Clayton doesn't want to rush elevating the situation without trying to find her themselves first. Sure enough, Sue Ellen is sleeping on the street somewhere in Dallas. She refuses a drink of wine from a bag lady, who only tells her she's at "the bottom of the bottle". Sue Ellen runs.

Donna and Jenna are talking about Charlotte, who is taking Bobby's death especially hard. Jenna is worried about continuing to raise Charlie alone. Donna finally tells Jenna that she is pregnant, and that she and Ray are reconciling. At Ewing Oil, Mandy visits J.R., who again sent his secretaries home and was just alone in his office, contemplating the future of the company. J.R. is feeling guilty at the prospect of the entirety of Ewing Oil falling into his hands as a result of Bobby's death, expecting to be in control of Christopher's share in trust. Cliff Barnes, however, is in his office, fretting over J.R. using his expected control of Ewing Oil to buy out the cartel. Other leaders in the cartel are unsure he will come after them, and one calls Cliff out as simply paranoid. Marilee Stone asks what would be in it for the other cartel members, since Cliff always seems to come out beneath J.R.

In Harv Smithfield's office, Pam is the last to arrive at the reading of Bobby's will, and she brought Jamie along, irritating J.R. Harv reads the short form of the will, written by Bobby personally:

    • Jenna Wade gets full control of the boutique Bobby started for her, and $500,000 cash, of which $100,000 should be put in trust for Charlotte.

    • Ray Krebbs gets all of Bobby's commercial and agricultural real estate holdings besides Southfork. He specifically mentions Cedar Ridge, a 7,000-acre parcel next to Southfork, bought at Ray's recommendation.

    • Miss Ellie gets back a pocket watch that once belonged to her father, to be given to another descendant of her choosing. He mentions the stories she told him about the watch.

    • Gary Ewing, who had to return to California before the will was read, gets the aforementioned horse, Banjo. Bobby mentioned it reminds him of a horse Jock tasked them with breaking when they were younger.

    • J.R. Ewing gets Bobby's collection of guns. He expresses that he never stopped loving J.R., and hopes J.R. feels the same. He tells of how J.R. taught him how to properly shoot when they were younger, and that he was always a great teacher.

    • Pamela Barnes Ewing is not left with anything directly, having already received more than she'll ever need from their previous divorce. He wishes her happiness in her own future.

    • Christopher Ewing receives Bobby's remaining monetary wealth, and his 30% share in Ewing Oil.

Harv mentions lastly that Christopher's share of Ewing Oil will be placed in Pam's trust. This shocks J.R., who was expecting to get that trust. He and Pam exchange a nervous glance.

Sue Ellen continues to walk the streets of Dallas, and is hassled by some street thugs. A man in a liquor store sees Sue Ellen while buying a fifth of vodka. He offers her a drink. Back at Harv's office, J.R. is arguing with him about Bobby's will, particularly Pam having trust in Christopher's share in the company. He says he'll do whatever it takes to keep Pam from having a say in the company. Meanwhile, Cliff is excited that Pam has control of that share. Jamie, however, insists that they cannot rush Pam into making any foolish decisions. She is still mourning Bobby, and the will only made her feel worse. Cliff agrees to bide his time.

Pam is driving around the ranch in her convertible. She screams when she barely avoids a backhoe on the road. When the concerned operator tells her she's lucky she's still alive, she only breaks down again. At Southfork, J.R. continues to press Harv to find a way to contest Bobby's will. Miss Ellie approaches about Sue Ellen being missing. J.R. pointedly suggests Dusty try to find her, before insisting that she can take care of herself, and will come back. Miss Ellie senses she's in trouble. She is in a motel room with the guy who offered her a drink, having drunk herself unconscious on his vodka. He steals her wedding ring set, and bails.

J.R. arrives at Mandy's apartment, suggesting they go out for the evening to get his mind off the business with Bobby's will and Sue Ellen's drinking. He suggests a dance hall, to Mandy's surprise. The next morning, Miss Ellie decides they need to call the police to report Sue Ellen missing. Jenna offers to make the call for them. Sue Ellen wakes up alone in the motel room she was left in, and asks the maid for another drink, but the maid informs Sue Ellen that this isn't a place that has room service. She sees her wedding ring missing, and breaks down, saying she hates herself.

Cliff comes to Pam's house to talk about Bobby's will; she actually thought he'd come sooner about it. He offers to help her with Christopher's share of Ewing Oil, but she declines. At Mandy's place, she comes home from shopping as J.R. gets finished dressing. She insists she knows he didn't really have a good time the previous night. He says he still feels sorry about Bobby, but he needs to get back to work. He insists she is going to get more of his attention, and Sue Ellen will soon be out of the picture. As for Sue Ellen, she returns to the previous bag lady, and finally takes a drink of her cheap wine.
