Such a funny episode.

No Spring for Frazer is an out and out classic episode, it is very, very funny. Such a simple plot, Frazer has lost the spring from the platoon's Lewis gun, he believes it's gone into the coffin of the late Mr Blewitt, efforts are made to retrieve it.

Some marvellous content on this episode, we learn more about Frazer, how talents and hobbies, as well as his absent mindedness. We also learn of the plucky spirit possessed by Mr Yateman.

Some classic moments stand out, first of all, the scene where Mr Yateman is trying to lay the dearly departed to rest, and secondly the funeral, both moments are hilarious.

It's a classic, 9/10.

A fun black comedy

Warning: Spoilers
No Spring for Frazer is a fun little shaggy dog story about Frazer accidentally misplacing the crucial spring from the platoon's Lewis gun in a coffin he made that now contains a recently deceased local citizen. In order to spare Frazer a potential court martial, the troops pull together to become housebreakers, funeral saboteurs and eventually even graverobbers as they search for the spring. Like all good farces, No Spring for Frazer escalates, with the antics becoming more extreme and the Home Guard members getting into hotter water with every attempt to rectify the situation. The episode makes good use of the ensemble and it's interesting to see Croft and Perry trying their hand at black comedy. It's not one of the more substantial episodes but it's a fun half hour.

Classic episode of Britcom

Interesting that on the discussion threads, someone stated they weren't too keen on this episode. For my money it ranks with the great episodes in British comedy. In particular Jones's interpretation of "For Want of a Nail" and Mr Blewett's explanation of how his brother died and Jones's reaction to it. Add to this the attempt at housebreaking ("honour among thieves eh? No, a copper showed me") and the verger's well intentioned attempt to cover the grave, and it is a great recipe for comedy. Admittedly the resolution is a little predictable but that is canceled out by the superb last line delivered by Godfrey. No doubt that "Dad's Army" is one of the very best shows in the history of television and this episode is one of the best. Certainly the best episode featuring Frazer as the central character, even if it is Hones that steals it. Love it, makes me laugh every time.

A bit silly but funny enough

A Dad's Army episode that's more farce than intelligent humour. After Frazer loses the spring on his Lewis light machine gun, the only one in the platoon, the platoon search frantically for it. Their zooming about leads them to suspect the spring is in the coffin of a recently deceased man. From this all sorts of schemes grow in order to retrieve it.

While funny at times it's all a bit silly and beneath the usual standard of Dad's Army. There's a few clever jokes but this episode largely relies on physical humour, Three Stooges-type physical humour.

Overall, it's still okay, just not up to the usual standard.
