"All the world does not love a musician"
JordanThomasHall6 May 2019
Eddie has been given a saxaphone from his friend Billy Gerber in hopes he'll like it and buy it from him. With free classes offered at school, Tom thinks it's a good idea that he is showing musical interest. Eddie practices at the apartment to the disgust of their upstairs neighbor Major Pritchett (Ivor Barry). Tom talks it over with Major Pritchett in his bird-filled apartment where he offers to find a reasonable time when he won't be disturbed. Major Pritchett demands it never be played, and Tom says that isn't reasonable. Eddie's playing is met with Major Pritchett stomping loudly in his apartment above. Eddie tells his dad that he always said to be considerate of the rights of other. Tom counters that Eddie has rights too. After Tom and Eddie have gone to bed, Major Pritchett stomps and loudly plays bagpipes at 2:00 a.m.. Tom goes upstairs where Major Pritchett says he'll only stop if Eddie quits playing. Tom says its a major difference than deliberately disturbing people at an unreasonable hour. Major Pritchett continues playing on. Tom wants justice. The next day, Tom brings in his lawyer Sy Freeman (Alan Oppenheimer) to review the lease against Major Pritchett's actions. Sy suggests the only practical thing is to reason with the agitated neighbor. Major Pritchett has organized other tenants as a "committee of concerned citizens" to meet about steps to take against Eddie's saxophone playing. He invites Tom. Eddie throws a wrinkle in the matter, but Tom presses on in the name of justice.
