Serge Prieur in Combat! (1962)

The Volunteer

Combat!

Continuity

When Gilbert hides the wounded Lt. Hanley in the underbrush to conceal him from the German patrol, Gilbert hides his own rifle along with the lieutenant. Then as he runs away, he has no rifle; but when the German squad first sees him, he's suddenly carrying the rifle on his shoulder; then when the Germans catch him, he once again has no rifle.
The cigarette Sgt. Saunders smokes after Lt. Hanley has been placed on the stretcher changes length between close-ups and long shots.
The boy, Gilbert, follows the squad as they leave the village. When seen from behind, his left arm is swinging by his side. From the front, his left arm is across the front of his body so he can hold the rifle strap.
When the German patrol stops for a rest, Hanley, hiding in the brush beneath some trees, would be seen by the Germans if they looked in his direction. But when the Germans leave, and Gilbert goes to get Hanley, he is completely covered by the brush.

Crew or equipment visible

As Gilbert is moving the wounded Lt. Hanley to the underbrush to conceal him from the German patrol, shadows from crew members behind the camera are seen on the ground.

Character error

Wounded Hanley tries, in English, to tell Gilbert, who doesn't understand English, to find the sergeant and tell him to radio about the Germans in the village. Eventually, the boy understands, but Hanley should have at least tried to use his hands to signal for something to write with.
