Kirby, who is given command of the squad in Saunders's absence, learns a lesson in leadership.
Sgt. Saunders is summoned for a meeting with Lt. Hanley and leaves his squad under the command of Kirby. Soon they realize that they are under siege of German troops and the communication has breakdown.
