Saunders positions his squad, the prisoners, dead bodies and weapons at the windows so that the Germans will see them and think that there are many more American soldiers than there really are. Once positioned, the men and weapons are visible when seen from the outside. Yet when the Germans arrive, they are seen looking at the building, and their POV is shown, but there is nothing seen at the windows.
