needs some sprucing up too
With this series, they are so close to something really good. Close, but no Dior. That is why normally generous-with-the- points Raven comes down so hard on it. Cher is like, way more likable than contemporary Sabrina, but that other show, with the self-centered spoiled brat, sailed through on the DVD release, while poor old CLUELESS (the TV series) only gathers dust somewhere who knows where, alas!

The reason is that Rachel Blanchard isn't Alicia Silverstone. Much of the rest do not come up to scratch either. This sentiment is born not only out of comparison with the original 1995 movie, it is clearly obvious that there is a very good idea here, but that it's not quite being pulled off.

Rachel Blanchard is very cute, and should have been a match for Alicia. Pretty girls tend to know their own power, and they can wrap audiences round their little pinkies, but I keep noticing that Rachel is inconsistent. Here's she's good, there she's better, and then, total bummer, there she throws it all away by being bland. And then I'm disappointed, because I've been a campfighter for this show for years, based on distant memories only.

Sandra Bernhard guest stars as a tough overseer to volunteers in a city renovation program. We get to see Rachel and Dee in ugly orange jumpsuits, a Glamour Don't if ever there was one. Episode comes in on my download at 19 minutes only, can that be? Nothing seems to be missing. Er, except that real old 1995 CLUELESS magic.
