- Cheyenne hires out to take some passengers to Creek Point unaware he is heading into danger. One is a crippled gunfighter who was tormented while in prison and still has nightmares about killing a small boy by accident.
- Clem Peters is followed by three men led by Gene Kirby. They are to kill the man Peters is meeting. Peters looks up Cheyenne who runs a freight line in the area. He asks Cheyenne to ferry Deborah Morse, a new school teacher, and her son Gabe to Creek Point as the stage line does not go that far. Cheyenne agrees to extend his route to there for $10. As they leave the stable for the saloon the three men attack but another man, Ben Shelby, intervenes. Red, one of the three men, recognizes Shelby. He and another man decide to pull out leaving Kirby alone. They mistook Cheyenne for Shelby who has been hired by the merchants of Creek Point for $2500 to become city marshal and wipe out the three Kirby brothers who force them to pay protection. Shelby who has no horse asks Cheyenne for a ride to Creek Point. Cheyenne agrees. Shelby is a gunfighter recently released from prison for killing by accident a nine year old boy. Gabe worships Shelby to the dismay of his mother as they travel and Shelby ponders his future.—Anonymous
