- Cheyenne witnesses a murder as he enters a town. He has come to pick up the son of a friend who is despised by his dad because he fought for the north. When the sheriff takes no interest in the murder, Cheyenne tries to help the widow.
- Cheyenne rides into a town to do a favor for a friend he met when the man was a guard at Leavenworth prison. He sees a man whipped to death in the street. As there were no other witnesses, Cheyenne's account is brought into question including from the local law who calls it an accident. When he tries to complete the favor that brought him here, he runs into folks who still have prejudices against the north and a young boy whose love for his father is caught in the middle. The boy Gerald is being raised by his grandfather who clings to the old southern honor system and his Uncle Ashley who despise Gerald's father Paul who fought for the North. The dead man left a widow Ruth Francis who is the school teacher and a friend of Gerald. She tells Cheyenne that her husband was killed by a group known as the Regulators. He sees that there is a fight among the cotton growers over whether to sell their cotton to the North for a profit or Europe at a loss and lose their property.—DrDOS
