For quite some time after this episode aired, Alex referred to the concept of a contestant betting enough on Final Jeopardy to possibly lose when they're far enough ahead they can wager nothing and still win became jokingly known as "pulling a Cliff Clavin".
The categories on the first round board (CIVIL SERVANTS, STAMPS FROM AROUND THE WORLD, MOTHERS AND SONS, BEER, BAR TRIVIA, and CELIBACY) were described by Norm as Cliff's "dream board" and were used much later in a May 10, 2005 episode of the Jeopardy! Ultimate Tournament of Champions.
When Alex Trebek passed away on November 8, 2020. MeTV aired this episode on November 13 in his memory.
