Money, Money, Money
Hitchcoc1 September 2019
Everyone is involved in the money game here. Sam wants to buy back Cheers and can't seem to amass enough money to do so. Carla is being audited by the IRS and is doing everything she can to cheat. Rebecca's old college professor comes to see her and puts Rebecca in a tizzy. Sam seeks advice but it isn't forthcoming. The problem is that there is no satisfaction.

Alexis Smith was nominated for an emmy for this role
jimwatson200918 July 2011
Someone should point out that Alexis Smith not only was nominated for an Emmy for this role (Volkman) but was a very talented actress. I invite you to read her very interesting bio on IMDb ! Some of her accomplishments: professional ballet gig at the age of 13. starred opposit Cary Grant in Night and Day. Starred opposite Errol Flynn in 4 movies Tony award for musical Follies nominated for Tony for Platinum Developed a night club act and performed in Los Angelas and in Canada, Was married her whole life to the wonderful Craig Stevens of Peter Gunn Fame.On television, Alexis was seen infrequently from the mid-1950's, sometimes appearing on the same show opposite her husband. She had a recurring role as the homicidal Lady Jessica Montfort in 'Dallas' during the 1984 and 1990 seasons and . It was fitting, or, perhaps, ironic, that her last film role ('The Age of Innocence', 1993) was as a New York socialite, a type of character she had portrayed abundantly in her heyday at Warners.

Sammy and the Professor (#8.13)
ComedyFan20109 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Rebecca's former college professor Alice Anne Volkman comes for a visit. Rebecca is very desperate to impress her. Sam on the other hand wants to have some advice on how to buy Cheers back. The three of them have dinner and after Sam drives Alice to her hotel where they end up having sex.

I really liked the episode. They made a strong and confident female character who used Sam for sex. And it makes fun of the usual idea that old ladies are being used because they are so lonely, and the minute Sam realizes it was all the other way around is hilarious. One can also see that the rating of this episode is lower than usual and as I looked the votes are mainly done by males. Some men can't stomach the idea that it is not an old fat guy who scores a hot young chick, but that it is a older but still beautiful female that gets herself a guy that is younger than her. Bravo to Cheers for this role reversal which we don't see much on TV even in our days.

Besides that Rebecca was pretty amusing. One of her character flaws is her desperate ass kissing(which makes her also an interesting character for the show) and in this episode it comes out stronger and more desperate than ever.

I Did Have A Nervous Breakdown

Warning: Spoilers
I hate this episode with a passion that has only gotten stronger over the years. Rebecca's hideously WASPY college professor comes for a visit and Sam bangs her. That's it. It's trite, and dumb, and Alexis Smith surely earns herself a spot on the Top Ten Worst Cheers Guest Stars of All-Time.

She's cold, she's unattractive, not particularly funny, and she must be the reason KY Jelly was invented because I cannot look at the woman without the words "vaginal dryness" popping in my head. The idea that she pays a visit to a former student and spends the entire time insulting her is obnoxious. The idea that Sam- supposed womanizer- finds her attractive enough to bang is preposterous. The idea that she winds up using him for sex is loathsome. Even her name- Alice Anne Volkman- brings me to the point of gag-vomit.

Carla gets a terrible B-story about being audited, which goes nowhere fast. But there's something arrogant and cold about Smith and her character- complaining about Rebecca not buying her book, insulting her as a student and as a person. Who the hell is this woman? Why is she here? Who would ever want to have sex with her? The woman deserves to be slapped in the face hard enough to bring the tears to her eyes, loud enough to deafen schoolchildren. She takes a forgettable episode and makes it awful. Let's you and I get out of here.

GRADE: D-
