Norm jokes that Tibor should "really think about wearing a helmet." By 1979 the NHL mandated that all players wear helmets. While this was grandfathered for veteran players, as a rookie to the NHL Tibor would be required to wear a helmet.
The group is having a discussion about the next president, in walks Tibor Svetkovic, a local hockey player. Diane doesn't know who this is and sarcastically asks everyone if he's going to be the president (because of the earlier conversation) in 1990. There wouldn't be a presidential election that year, the election would be either in 1988 or 1992.
