Watching the old episodes of Checkmate I'm noticing a distinct pattern with the guest cast. A lot seem to be performing in offbeat roles, contrary to their well known personas.

Take George Sanders for instance in this episode. The Checkmate crew are on hand at director John Emery's new rather avant garde play. It seems to be a cursed production. That's why the Checkmate crew is brought in.

As most of us know George Sanders was always the ultimate cad and quite confident and self assured. He's not quite that here, he's an aging romantic lead who knows his days are numbered if not already gone. It's a different Sanders, one frankly I'm not used to seeing.

You judge for yourself whether you like a kinder and gentler George Sanders.
